Cullie Tarleton Comes Out Swinging

Former NC House member Cullie Tarleton will file tomorrow to challenge Jonathan Jordan for his old seat, and he's set to begin airing this radio spot as early as tomorrow afternoon. Listen.

He's zeroing in on the reality of our post-Citizens United world, where puppet-masters like Art Pope pump money by the bucketsful into attack strategies to benefit their water-carriers.

We applaud the message and hope that other Dems candidates for the NC General Assembly take careful note.

McCrory's refusal to disclose tax returns

The line between being coy and outright deception is pretty thin:

Former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, the presumptive Republican nominee for North Carolina governor and favorite for the office in November, brought this issue to the forefront recently when he said he won't release his tax returns this year. He says that he'll release all of the financial data required under state ethics laws but that his return is private.

So much for running on a platform to eradicate the "culture of corruption" in State Government. And this idiotic statement had me laughing outloud:

National Defense Authorization Act Protest Scheduled: Occupy Movement & Tea Party Join Together Against NDAA

Southern Oregon Conservatives and Liberals Join to Protest NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2012)

EVENT DATE: Monday, 13 February 2012, Noon-1pm PST
PLACE: Vogel Plaza, Central Ave & Main St, Medford OR

MEDFORD, OREGON - On Monday 13 February 2012 at Noon in Vogel Plaza there will be a demonstration against the passing of the NDAA, including Wake Up America Southern Oregon, and Occupy Coalition of Ashland, Medford, and Grants Pass, as well as concerned individuals across the political spectrum.

The indefinite detention clauses (sections 1021 and 1022) within this year's National Defense Authorization Act (signed into law 31 December 2011) are a direct attack upon the civil rights of all Americans, and represent another step taken toward eroding the freedoms which lay at the foundation of our society.

Curb Judicial Discretion

Here is yet another reason why we need to place tighter controls on judicial discretion. SILSBEE, Texas — Rakheem Bolton approached the free-throw line as his school’s cheerleading squad rooted for him to hit the shot during a 2009 playoff game.

One cheerleader stepped away from the group, folded her arms and stood in silence, refusing to cheer for the star athlete who she says raped her at a party in this Southeast Texas town.

Now, two years later, that silent protest is drawing new attention across the nation as the result of an unusual series of events. Those events left the family of the victim, who was then 16, facing $45,000 in penalties from the legal proceedings that followed the incident, while her alleged attacker was freed after reduced charge plea bargain.

Back to when?

Here's a great summary of why we all should have been in the streets a long time ago, apparently written by a Republican to fellow Republicans:

Now, since Obama's regime, all of a sudden, folks have gotten mad, and want to take America Back...BACK TO WHAT/WHERE is my question?

After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn't get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq.

HKonJ 2012

I am just back from HKonJ 6. I wanted to create a place with this blog entry for people to share their experiences and photos from the march and rally. For me, it was a great event. It was really empowering to see so many people supporting equality, voting rights, raising awareness about HAVA, and social justice. I saw old friends, made new contacts, and even saw Rep. Miller there as well. What was your experience with this, or past HKonJs?

GOP cuts to higher education force tuition hike

Making the gap between the Haves and the Have-Nots even wider:

In addition to taking a hacksaw to higher-education funding last year, the Honorables also cut money for financial aid. Some revenue from the tuition increase will go to financial aid, but as the price of admission rises more students will fall through the cracks.

I think it's safe to say that making the UNC System only available to the privileged few was exactly what the framers of our Constitution didn't want to happen:

Call to Action: Demand that President Obama Veto H.R. 658 And Scrub The DHS Wide Area Aerial Surveillance System (WAASS)

DEMAND THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA VETO H.R. 658 AND SCRUB THE DHS WIDE AREA AERIAL SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM (WAASS) IT ENABLES

Known to the clueless as the "FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012", but recognized by the concerned as the "Skynet Surveillance Enabling Act of 2012", H.R. 658 is now hovering at the White House just one corporate fascist puppet presidential signature away from authorizing the filling of America's skies with as many as 30,000 "1984 Meets Terminator" Big Brother Police State citizen surveillance drones:
