Submitted by DrFrankLives on Mon, 12/22/2008 - 1:52pmOccasionally when I can't get started on something I HAVE to write, I will just start writing something else and let the process work itself out until words are flowing readily, even for the tedious writing someone is paying me to do. Last night I did that, while thinking of the family Christmas party I was not attending, and I came up with the passage below. Not sure if it's poetry or prose. Maybe it's not either, but I thought it worth posting and inviting comment on. You can comment on my writing, or on the subject matter, or on your own experiences. Feel free.

Ty Harrell Needs Your Help - And He's Not Asking For Money
Please stop by the DLCC site and put in the name of my friend Rep. Ty Harrell as a DLCC "essential candidate." Ty holds NC House District 41, which he won in 2006 by a razor-thin margin over its former occupant, statewide embarrassment Russell Capps.
STINGING NETTLE EXCLUSIVE - McCain VP Selection Transcripts revealed
Submitted by DrFrankLives on Fri, 08/29/2008 - 11:04amCrossposted from The Stinging Nettle.
How exactly did we end up with John McCain picking Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska? Luckily, the Stinging Nettle had John McCain's phone bugged, and here's what we found out.
11:01 PM THU - McCain - "Jim. Get me Romney."
UNIDENTIFIED MALE ("Jim") - "Yes Senator..... here you go sir."
McCain - "What?"
Jim - "The phone sir. You asked me to get Governor Romney on the phone."
McCain - "Oh. Thanks. Hello, George?"
Mitt Romney - "Um . . . well, John, it's Mitt. George was my dad."
McCain - "Eh?"
How many houses do YOU own?
Submitted by DrFrankLives on Thu, 08/21/2008 - 10:34pm
Senator and Mrs. McCain can't keep track of all their mansions.
John McCain could not remember how many houses he owns when asked.
If there is any justice, McCain's failure to remember how many houses he owns will be the "I voted for it before I voted against it" of this election. It should be the touchstone which serves as shorthand for all valid criticisms of the man. It should sink his campaign.

Submitted by DrFrankLives on Wed, 08/13/2008 - 11:31amEvery year this happens. Every year they come for me. Every year I manage to weasel my way out of it.
But not this year.
This year, they got me. I am being detained for my "past activities." In a manner completely contrary to the Constitution, I am being locked up until I can prove myself worthy of release.
Another example of the Bush Justice department gone awry?
Judicial activism at its worst?
Nope. Just a chance for you to help cure Muscular Dystrophy. I'm in the MDA Lockup in Raleigh, North Carolina, and I need your help to get out.
So click on my donation link and help Jerry's Kids in Eastern Carolina.

Damn It, John. What were you thinking?
Submitted by DrFrankLives on Fri, 08/08/2008 - 4:15pm"So no, I don't care what you were thinking when you allowed someone who was close to you to get too close. I am not judging your morality. That isn't for me to judge. Or anyone else, for that matter. I am, however, stunned at your timing. I am judging your common sense. At a time you had the hopes of a good portion of America on your shoulders, you shirked it."

Telling the truth about the departed
Submitted by DrFrankLives on Sat, 07/05/2008 - 12:56pmIt's funny, isn't it, that we are tempted to lie about the dead? To deny those parts of complex personalities that made us uncomfortable, or reminded us of their humanity? Instead, at the end of a life, we all gather and feel pressure, from somewhere, to pretend we loved the person, even if we didn't. To remember that one time the person was decent, rather than the 99.99% of the rest of the miserable experiences you had with her.
So, I expect even the N&O, the long-time foresworn enemy / tango partner of Senator Jesse Helms, will pull out all the hagiographic stops as Jesse Helms is laid to rest over the next few days. I guess we should expect it.
What I had to say three years ago about the man, however, I am still willing to say today. And you can read it at The Stinging Nettle, or below the fold.
Well . . . crud
Submitted by DrFrankLives on Wed, 05/07/2008 - 11:07amSilver lining, silver lining . . . . gotta be here somewhere.... oh, here it is. Lost race for Statewide office while running a campaign built on candor, integrity, effort and grassroots support. Left the field of battle with head high, despite mud and underhanded tactics. Will be back - long after they are gone.
There we go. That will do nicely.
