Judge Orr is a good guy, despite his connections to the Pope machine. He's smart, thoughtful and has his heart in the right place. As I've said all along, that combination of attributes appears completely unwelcome in the NC Republican Party.

I have a lot of respect for him.

I've said a couple of times we should grab him for 'our side', but really, we should hope that his "side", his type, prevails in the NC-GOP. I know a lot of Republicans; I live in Moore County, for heaven's sake. More of them are like Orr than are like Daves or Pope.

It's too bad that he didn't get any of the money or press that the other 2 got. McCrory came out as the front runner for whatever reason, and the conservative base has pushed strongly for Smith (apparently about 80% of the Republican leadership is behind Smith).

But it's not like being on the NC Supreme Court is important right? I mean, McCrory was a mayor!
