Changes Coming to BlueNC
It's that time again. BlueNC is having major growing pains and we are in need of an upgrade. Our database is in dire need of some cleaning and we have unnecessary files all over the place.
We also need to shed some outdated modules and upgrade our Drupal installation from 5.x to 6.x. In our case it will be Drupal 6.6. This will mean some big changes and it might take you some time to get used to some of the new features.
We will temporarily lose the use of our private message system and our events calendar, but the benefits of the upgrade will far outweigh those minor inconveniences.
Depending on the problems I encounter with our database - and I anticipate quite a few - this could take weeks to role out the final product. Obviously, we can't take BlueNC down for two weeks to make this happen, but I will need to take the site offline during certain hours - preferably when I'm not already half asleep. If you find you can't access the site after 9:00 p.m. and before 8:00 a.m. you will know I am tinkering.
I will probably perform the actual upgrade this weekend. I'm sorry for the quick notice. We may have significant down time after tonight.
While BlueNC is down, you may chat over at NC Politico. I have already performed the upgrade and some of the new features you will see at BlueNC are on display at NC Politico. You may also notice that I was talking to myself over there while I tested out the forums (yes, I installed some forums over there) and the comment sections. Check them out and while you're over there let me know what you think.

Thanks so much for all you do!
Well...we gotta be all spiffy for the debut of your book
:D
Thanks!
So the best will simply get better! We shall patiently await the improvements. As we shall, for a time, in the nation., I presume.
Tags!
I thought the tags were new. Can you add the smiley module to this editor? ;-D

Sorry, we won't have emoticons...I mean smileys
The tags were just lost in the last upgrade. We do need to clean up our tags. We ask that folks use the existing tags that pop up whenever possible. if you were to peruse our tags you would find that some of us had some fun with creative tags. It makes search a pain and hurts our page ranking.
Drupal Modules
I had fun adding modules to my Drupal page. Of course some worked and some didn't.
I didn't know what editor you are using here as I've used Tiny MCE. But the Smileys Module worked pretty well with it. I've not upgraded to 6 yet, though.

It's the combination of modules
that can be the real killer for some fun geegaws and doodads. Upgrading to 6 is not a walk in the park. There are problems with CCK and a few other modules. I use NCP as a test site, but it isn't really a good test site b/c I don't use all the same modules, etc.
hahaha...just read this again
Do you think I used the word, "tags" enough?
Good heavens!
