Congressman Brad Miller will not seek reelection
"My only two options are to run in a primary with David Price or not to run," Miller said. "I have talked to a lot of friends who have supported David and me. Some would support David. And some would support me. But none of them want to see a primary between us."
What is the customary period of mourning for this? Anyone know?

From the N&O/CharO
I haven't verified it with Rep. Miller, yet....'twas a bit early to call when I read the paper this morning

Still would like to see him run
in his "old" district ... against Gerry Mander.
Sad news. A win for the dark side.

Bummer
Regardless of how much this may please Republicans (and their bankster friends), this is not a proud moment for North Carolina. To lose Brad and keep an idiot like McHenry in our Congressional delegation is actually a slap in the face to not just our state, but the rest of the country, as well.
Tragedy
Wow we lose Miller but NC will be stuck with the likes of McHenry, Sue Myrick, Virginia Foxx, and Renee Elmers. Sad times in the Old North State.
Miller not running again?
Dangit dangit dangit.
Damn.
Even though I have become as cynicial as political conditions warrant, this news is galling. I am particularly disappointed that David Price, who has had a long and distinguished career, would insist on one more term instead of stepping aside for one of the most dynamic and informed progressive voices on the most pressing issue of our time- the metastasis of Wall Street's power and the fundamental threat to the American Dream.
Brad Miller has repeatedly demonstrated integrity while serving in one of the epicenters of the Washington bordello, the Financial Services Committee. Talk is cheap, but Congressman Miller has repeatedly gone out of his way to challenge the big banks with proposals for clarity, fairness, and genuine regulation of a system gone awry. By his enemies you may know him, and he has long had a target on his back from the financial sector. He has vital expertise- Elizabeth Warren has named him as one of the biggest friends to consumers on the Hill. In this time of a very important national conversation on economic fairness, opportunity, and inequality, why would we want to lose such an informed and courageous voice exactly where it is needed?
Since David Price voted for [thttp://clerk.house.gov/evs/2005/roll108.xml] the 2005 Charles Dickens Memorial Bankruptcy Bill, one of the biggest victories for the big banks and credit vultures, I have looked upon him with a jaundiced eye. Why can't he be induced to retire so that the younger Mr. Miller can assume a safe seat from which to continue his important work for the progressive cause?
At least this bad news is leavened by today's announcement of the departure of Timmy 'the Wall Street errand boy' Geithner. I'm sure that he'll land on his feet with a nice cash-in from his pals at Goldman or JP Morgan....
My sentiments exactly
I said as much to Mr. Price late last year, though I also said I would support him if he ran. He is a personal friend and a good man.
(For the record, I also contributed to Miller's campaign, so I'm feeling a bit hung out to dry myself.)

Miller
Miller shows great cowardice in the face of a serious run. To bad.
So Brad will consider the NC Governorship?
Now that's representation I can really get behind!
Hiya Mo!
I'm being a little unfair to Brad. He was in the middle of responding to all his well wishers and had just heard about the Governor's decision. He literally had not thought about it. He simply (being a smart man) wasn't going to give an answer until he'd had time to at least run it through his mind....at least that is how it seemed from his response.

Hey Betsy, glad to hear that
at least he's considering it. I personally think he would be our best bet!
