Creationism and the North Carolina Family Policy Council
I'm guessing The Family Fraudsters here in North Carolina are all atwitter today over a landmark ruling in California on the "science" of creationism.
Rejecting claims of religious discrimination and stifling of free expression, U.S. District Judge James Otero of Los Angeles said UC's review committees cited legitimate reasons for rejecting the texts - not because they contained religious viewpoints, but because they omitted important topics in science and history and failed to teach critical thinking.
Otero's ruling Friday, which focused on specific courses and texts, followed his decision in March that found no anti-religious bias in the university's system of reviewing high school classes. Now that the lawsuit has been dismissed, a group of Christian schools has appealed Otero's rulings to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
Poor zealots. The University of California isn't giving them credit for replacing science classes with Bible-reading. Can you believe it?
Here in North Carolina, we have more than our own fair share of advocates for dumbing down science curricula. They start, of course, with the Puppetshow, where Karen McMahan calls for a return to the flat-earth society ... and they extend all the way to the NC Family Policy Council whose white paper on the supposed differences between creationism and intelligent design has all hte character of a flat-footed angel dancing on the edge of a razor blade.
And, most importantly, design theorists have a genuine program of scientific research that they are now pursuing with increasing vigor. Despite this, critics of intelligent design argue that intelligent design is not a scientific theory.
Zowie! Intelligent design theorists have a gen-u-whine program of scientific research. I suspect it looks a lot like the gen-u-whine program of anti-science claptrap that passes for free-market thinking on climate change.
These emperors have no clothes.

But ... but ... but ...
science can never trump the Bible! It's the sole authority on everything on which it speaks, including science.
I'm not kidding--that's what the fundies are going to say.
God Created Them with Brains
God Created them with brains so that they would think, not so that they would celebrate ignorance.
"Keep the Faith"
I don't really have anything to say
that isn't much more effectively articulated here by Robert John Russell. He pretty much speaks for me. I'm so totally offended by the intelligent design community's need to start with the answer and work to make the evidence fit the answer that I can't even be rational when discussing this stuff.

What the Family Protectors had in mind?
I won't be surprised if the NC Family Protector Brownshirts point to this and say "it served him right." Good old, red-blooded heteros can't be expected to put up with pansy-assed queers in schools, right?
