Mary Fant Donnan for N.C. Commissioner of Labor

Hi folks! I wanted to take a moment to say hello and to thank Betsy and James for organizing a live blog on Wednesday (June 18th) at 7pm. Thank you also to the BlueNC community for your interest in the Labor Commissioner's race. I'm excited to exchange ideas with all of you on Wednesday, and I welcome your questions.

As many of you know, I'm running for N.C. Commissioner of Labor. Thanks to all of you who took an early interest in this race, including those of you who worked hard for Robin Anderson. Robin was a strong candidate, and I respect her immensely. I'm honored to have her support moving forward.

A run-off election on June 24th will determine which Democrat will face Cherie Berry in November.

I believe that I am the candidate remaining in this race who is most capable of defeating Berry in the Fall. With your help, as Commissioner of Labor, I will utilize all of the resources of the department to support our changing workforce, create fair workplaces, and promote safety.

As committed progressives and activists, you are all vital to this effort. I truly believe that the Commissioner of Labor can play a more active role in keeping North Carolina safe and working. I hope that you will join us Wednesday, keep up your good work for progressive causes in N.C., and vote on June 24th (or at early voting sites this week)!

We'll be there for you~

Well, I will. I'm betting that most people on this blog will, too.

We're more than ready to be done with Cherie Berry.

Great to see you here Mary!

I'm looking forward to Wednesday. I'll get the question thread up tomorrow afternoon.

Thank you for coming to Union County to speak to Democratic Women. I'm so glad I had a second chance to see you in person. It's obvious you have a great deal of passion for this work.

Let's get this darn race on the radar!

Glad to see you today. Getting close to crunch time.

PS How are the newspaper endorsements coming? I think they would play a disproportionately large role in run-offs where turnout will be low.

When I went to vote last week,

I was number 6. Not for the day - for the entire voting period. We need to make as many calls as we can and get people out there to vote.

Good point, Linda

Everyone should be calling their list of friends and family members - Dems and Unaffiliated voters - to get them out to vote. Please make sure you send a reminder to your email groups as well.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Mary is great!

Hey Mary! I'm so glad you'll be dropping by later this week.
I want to tell everyone that Mary is a true progressive. She is interested in real labor issues - like how migrant workers are treated. Voting for Mary is clearly a way to make North Carolina a much stronger and healthier state.

I just got back from voting in Wake County

I was number 46. In the most politically aware county in North Carolina. Forty Six.

The winner is going to simultaneously win by 3 votes and a huge margin.

Mary, what do you think the biggest problems or issues will be for you as the new Commissioner to address which have been created by 8 years of a Republican administration and what will your first steps be in that first year to tackling them.
