What had been a truce between Israel and the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip seems to have abruptly come to a halt; with the Israelis blaming Hamas and Hamas blaming Israeli oppression of the displaced Palestinians for the simmering hostilities that are now boiling over into military-scale violence.

Before the recent holidays and an immoderate amount of snow buried me in things that could not be done on the computer we had been having a conversation about the strategic importance of our relationship with Egypt. Within that series of discussions we explored the influence of the political opposition, and we considered the fragility of President Mubarak’s hold on power.

We also noted the immediate proximity of Egypt to the Gaza Strip.

Today we’re going to tie all of that together—and the end result of all that tying is that we better keep a close eye on Egypt, because trouble in Gaza has spilled over into trouble in Cairo....and that’s one more Middle Eastern problem we don’t need.

Should Hillary Clinton stay in the U.S. Senate or take Secretary of State in the Obama Administration?

Rachel Maddow is right. Hillary hit it out of the park tonight.

Hillary didn't just tell her supporters that she's supporting Barack Obama, she asked her supporters why they supported her (read WHY would you support John McCain)?

While it was anticipated that speakers would slam McCain, the hits exceeded expectations.

BAM!

If there ever was a election to vote for a yellow dog if it was a Democrat this is it.

Dear Michelle Obama,

I was recently nudged out of my wait-and-see state after reading an opinion piece written by Mary C. Curtis of The Charlotte Observer. I found it in The Washington Post. I've waited to hear what the response will be from the well-known feminists and all I hear are crickets.

I may not have a name in the feminist movement and I may not have a big national platform, but let me be among the first to respond to Mary's piece. Michelle, it's not going to happen this time. We aren't going to let Republicans and the right wing media get away with labeling you as anything other than the accomplished, intelligent, compassionate mother and wife that you are. We won't let them portray you as anything other than a strong, loyal, patriotic American. We won't let them demonize you like we let them demonize Hillary Clinton.
