Your North Carolina Delegates

I hadn't met our North Carolina delegation until I walked in Monday night. I asked all the people in charge where the North Carolina delegation was sitting so I wouldn't have to walk in and trudge around the floor looking for them. I finally found our delegation. Thinking back, I don't know why I didn't spot them from across the floor. They were the only delegates who were on their feet, dancing, singing, waving signs and cheering and that was at the beginning of the night before any of the big name speakers were on.

Their energy and enthusiasm are infectious. The first night we had more camera crews hanging around our area than any other delegation. They just kept coming and the energy of our delegates never waned.

Jerry Meek vlog mutual-interview from the DNC

I wanted Jerry to be my first mutual-interview, but he was in high demand. Thankfully he made some time for me in the midst of the morning.

I love his final question to me. It's exactly the kind of moment I want to have in these mutual interviews. He asked me something that he didn't expect, but gave me the opportunity to talk about something that I'm really interested in.

Bob Etheridge vlog mutual-interview from the DNC

I also caught up with U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge after this morning's breakfast. He was really excited to talk about engaging young voters. I think his questions to me were pretty good.

Warning: I held the camera myself and it shows! You might want to just listen to the audio. I'll try not to do this again. I bet you won't find this cross-posted on Etheridge's website!

Pricey Harrison vlog mutual-interview from the DNC

After this morning's North Carolina Delegation breakfast, I caught up with NC Rep. Pricey Harrison. Pricey has been a great ally on two issues that are important to me: engaging young people and immigration. I started out by asking her about those issues.

This was the first vlog I taped. The audio quality is pretty poor because of the location. But it's going to be tough to find quiet spots this week!

In Defense Of Mike

I have very recently felt compelled to throw water on the raging fire of criticism that has been directed at our Governor over at The Dome, as it seems that virtually any story about him lately inspires a feeding frenzy of contempt and vitriol.

Due Process and Delegate Selection

2008: This year we have a presumptive nominee for President who promises change and the beginning of a "new kind of politics." Here in North Carolina, it seems we have a decision to make about whether this is just empty rhetoric to help win an election or whether we are taking to heart Sen. Obama's message and changing the way our party does business...

Jerry Meek goes to Charlotte!

McHenry accuses Johnson of being an "insider" again, Linda Daves (See: Obama ad) makes petty attacks

Looks like McHenry's playing the only card he knows how: raising hell about "Democrats in Washington". Tonight's flavor? McHenry, using Linda Daves (who has met me and knows I think she's as shallow as a puddle of water in the street) as a squawkbox for his patent brand of bull, screaming about how Congressional candidate Daniel Johnson is lying about claiming his bags are not packed with Washington money.

Wait, are you kidding me? Patrick McHenry is behind this? The man known for lining his pockets with more Washington money (and spending that said money more frivolously) than virtually any other politician in the state? Wow.

NCDP Changes Date of JJ Dinner to May 2

The North Carolina Democratic Party has changed the date and venue of the annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner to May 2.

It will be held at the J.S. Dorton Arena, located on the NC State Fairgrounds, 1025 Blue Ridge Road.

The changes were made to accommodate the growing interest and enthusiasm among Democrats surrounding the upcoming presidential primary on May 6.

“With our State playing a critical role in the Presidential nominating process, this year’s dinner promises to be one you won’t want to miss,” said NCDP Chair Jerry Meek.

Senators Clinton and Obama have been invited to come. Keynote speakers to be announced.

A reception will kick off this year’s event at 5:30 p.m. with dinner following at 7 p.m.
