Help College Dems Come up with Questions for Their Next LG Debate

I received an email from Doug Massengill, President of NCFCD (North Carolina Federation of College Democrats) asking if BlueNC could once again contribute questions for the debate between the four candidates for Lt. Governor. Here's his message.

The NCFCD is now accepting questions for the Lt. Governor's Debates in Charlotte at UNC Charlotte in the Cone Center. Questions are welcome from all interested persons, including non-college students. Questions should not be addressed to a particular candidate; however you may mention a candidate's position on an issue. The deadline for submitting questions for the April 12th debate in Winston Salem, North Carolina is 12:00pm on April 11th.

Senator Dalton to Join NCFCD Debate

The N.C. Federation of College Democrats has received communication from Senator Walter Dalton that he will indeed be joining the other candidates in the first debate sponsored by the Federation to take place at UNC-Asheville. The Federation is very excited that all the candidates have decided to take part in these debates. The representation of all the candidates will allow for greater perspective on the important issues that these debates will bring to the arena of public debate.

The first debate in the six part series will take place at UNC-Asheville on January 19th, 2008, at 2 p.m.

N.C. College Democrats Host 2008 Winter Reception Honoring Former State Representative Wayne Goodwin

The North Carolina Federation of College Democrats is proud to be hosting its first ever Winter Reception following the N.C. Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee meeting in Hamlet, North Carolina on January 26th, 2008. The event will be held at the historic Hamlet Train Depot and will honor former State Representative Wayne Goodwin.

This is the first fundraiser of its kind held by the Federation. The group is asking for sponsorships beginning at the $100 dollar level. All proceeds will benefit the Federation and its various projects throughout the state. The event is being held in the eighth congressional district, one of the districts Democrats are focusing heavily on for the 2008 elections.

Lt. Gov. debate schedule announced

Friends, I am pleased to announce that the NC Federation of College Democrats has finalized its schedule for the Lt. Gubernatorial candidate debates I proposed here last month. Both Dan Besse and I have agreed to participate in all six debates, starting with an event in Asheville on Jan. 19.

I want to thank the College Dems for their hard work in assembling a schedule that includes most of the state’s major urban areas and incorporates a wide range of educational institutions. As those of us running for executive office know, organizing any sort of statewide effort is a monumental task, and I applaud the College Dems for not shirking from the challenge.

We could use your help...
