Obama

Obama and the impact of this election on multi racial people

My sister in law is multi racial and I had a chance to talk to her and my brother yesterday after the gorgefest at my house. They live in DC so they do not get the stares like they do around here, even in the "big" city of Charlotte. I asked my SIL what the election meant to her and she said that, even though it shouldn't have, it helped validate her self image.

Tiffany is a very well educated woman and runs the DC office of a nationaly recognized alternative energy company. Like Obama, she was raised by her white mother after her father left them when she was young.

I asked her about the self image statement. She said that as a mixed race person, she never felt accepted by either group. African Americans had their heros and role models as did Whites but who was out there for her?

Why isn't Obama trying to build up the Democratic Party with his 3-million volunteers?

It's great that the Obama campaign managers built a political machine partially by poaching volunteers and officers of local Democratic party organizations. We had elected precinct chairs claim they didn't have time to do the few things we ask of them - namely organize an election day team for their precincts - because they had to make calls and knock on doors for the Obama campaign. Of course the weird thing is - the state party told us that was the county's responsibility even though they were making excuses for the Obama campaign poaching our volunteers.

There are few things I dislike more than being called unpatriotic because someone disagrees with my politics. Allow me to introduce you to John Locke Foundation blogger Jon Ham, who can apparently determine your patriotism by what yard sign you display. Here is Ham's 4th of July offering:
