Pat McCrory
Millionaires for McCrory
Submitted by gregflynn on Mon, 09/08/2008 - 8:13amWealthy Republican donors have been lining up to contribute to an ad campaign for Pat McCrory in amounts far in excess of normal $4,000 contribution limits and it's all perfectly legal. Last week the Republican Governor's Association reported spending on an anti-Perdue ad and reported contributions to the RGA NC 2008 PAC of $616,500 from 23 wealthy donors, an average contribution of $26,804 per person.

Pat McCrory wants to get rid of health care mandates
Submitted by justing on Wed, 08/20/2008 - 3:52pmIn last night’s debate, I’m sure you noticed Bev held Pat McCrory accountable for his outrageous opposition to requiring insurance companies to cover basic health care needs. Read more here.
On his 2008 NFIB questionnaire, McCrory checked “oppose” to the question “B2. Mandating insurance coverage of certain specific benefits by employers?” McCrory did not elaborate his answer as he did for other questions.
So basically, Pat McCrory doesn’t want mandates to cover some of the most basic health care procedures – siding with insurance companies over the health of North Carolina’s citizens.
These mandates cover procedures like mammograms and prostate screens, and guarantee coverage for emergency care among other things.

We can’t let Pat McCrory get his hands on the state’s health care system – he’s too dangerous.

That Bozo from Charlotte will see us out to the highest bidder. This is exactly how I see it.

I'm sure you and your staff agonized about whether to sell out poor brown people for political advantage, but agony or not, you came down on the wrong side of an important moral issue. Which makes your campaign irrelevant to me. Don't bother calling. Don't bother writing. Don't bother me at all. You don't need progressives, and progressives don't need you. I'm heading for Mike Munger.
RALEIGH - Leaders of the state's community colleges voted today to close their doors to illegal immigrants until they complete a study and come up with a permanent policy. The decision today by the State Board of Community Colleges marks a reversal from Thursday, when officials indicated they were inclined to admit illegal immigrants pending the outcome of the study.
Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue, the Democratic candidate for governor, made the motion to ban illegal immigrants from community colleges while the study is ongoing.
Breaking: Pat McCrory wants to spend millions on more government programs!

How stupid does Myers Park Pat think North Carolina is? Judging from his comments in Kinston last week, the answer is: Pretty damn stupid.
Seriously, it looks like ol' Pat has truly slid off the deep end with more political pandering than you can shake a stick at. Besides promising to hand the keys to the governor's office to his pals at Duke Energy, McCrory wants to crank up the tax machine so he can pump millions into government programs for coastal communities:
Part of his solution (to the energy crisis) includes off-shore drilling, an issue he and his Democratic opponent Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue differ on. Perdue has said she wouldn't allow off-shore drilling if she is elected in November. McCrory said he would take part of the millions of dollars generated by the drilling and put it back into coastal communities to help with their particular concerns, such as dredging and infrastructure.
But that's just the beginning.

I'm steamed and you should be too. Pat McCrory's letter to raise PAC money - a close up view of political sausage making if there ever was one - is being mostly ignored. By the media, and by conservatives who say they value small-d democracy. In case you haven't seen it ...
The Great Republican Governors Association McCrory Money Laundering Machine
Submitted by gregflynn on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 9:11pmThe Republican Governors Association wasted no time setting up an Independent Expenditure Committee called the RGA NC 2008 PAC to receive and spend unlimited amounts of money from individuals to run ads for Pat McCrory in the wake of court rulings and subsequent recent changes to North Carolina election law. A Statement of Organization was filed 5/19/08 and the PAC already has $387,380 on hand from out of state donors ready to spend in support of McCrory
Corporate funds are prohibited for independent expenditures but, according to IRS records, the Republican Governors Association 527 Political Committee received $135,000 from North Carolina corporations in the first half of 2008.

Contact the Public Utilities Commission about Duke Energy's Save-A-Watt Scheme
Submitted by James Protzman on Sun, 07/06/2008 - 11:16am
By all accounts, Duke Energy is a pretty well run company. Their business model has two simple components: (1) Get customers to use more energy and charge them more for that usage whenever possible, and (2) get customers to use less energy and charge them more for their conservation habits whenever possible. It's a sweet deal if you can get it.
The Man-Who-Would-Be-Governor, of course, has spent 18 years on the "use more" side of the house, doing his best to attract more and more commercial customers onto the growing Duke power grid. With his own personal wealth inextricably tied to the fortunes of Big Energy, Pat McCrory is already emerging a reliable front-man for his ex-employer.
But things are even more insidious on the "use less" side of the Duke Energy balance sheet, as evidenced in this story in the News and Observer.
