On Washington's Primary, Or, It Might Be Time For Republicans To Worry

In which your "foreign correspondent" brings a first-hand account of the Darcy Burner primary campaign to BlueNC...and suggests that this could be part of a national trend.

In the dark and without a clue.

Once again, Virginia Foxx is in the dark.

Republicans Attack Medicare, Military Families, and Doctors.

Cross posted from The Progressive Pulse

Congress will resume debate today over the bill to prevent a 10.6% pay cut to doctors who provide care to Medicare patients. Details here. The pay cut took effect last week, July 1, but processing of claims has been delayed for two weeks in hopes of a solution. Military families, who receive coverage under the federal program Tricare, are similarly threatened.

When will Neo-Cons ever take a marketing class?

Anguished and Lashing Out

If you read the comments at the Asheville Citizen-Times, you’re already aware that Barack Obama is an Islamic apostate who may be a mooslim, that he’s BFF with terrorists from Hamas to Weather Underground, and that he Hates white people. As a regular participant in the lowly AC-T forums, I’ve come to expect the worst sorts of smear tactics from zealous, frothy-mouthed shut-ins.

This sort of poison is rippling across the internet and talk radio, lapping at the harried shores of truck stops, diners, and dive bars. It’s infecting the subtext of this Presidential contest with racism, xenophobia, and Christian Nationalism.

The NC GOP's anti-Obama color arousal ad

[UPDATE: Is it on or off? John McCain clearly doesn't know how to control bigot eruptions in his own party -- first there was an announcement by Charlie Black that the ad was pulled by the NCGOP; state party chair Linda Daves says it's still a go for the color arousal show. A number of local stations are refusing to run it.]

Initial version cross-posted at Pam's House Blend.

As a native North Carolinian (and current Durham resident), I can tell you that the bottom-feeding video from the NC GOP, supposedly about Dem gubernatorial candidates Bev Perdue and Richard Moore (both endorsed Obama), is standard operating procedure for a state party in a death spiral.

That it is trying to link those candidates' support for Obama to Rev. Wright (how weak is this?) to generate color arousal is not only disgraceful, but a prime example of what kind of games we will see in the fall.

Republic's Patron Saint McSame to offer more of the Same

I know that this is a North Carolina blog, but this situation has my blood boiling and I thought I would share my thoughts with your regarding the news from the John McCain camp. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Well, Saint McSame has some good news and some bad news for Americans. I would love to do a "first the good news and then the bad news" sort of diary, but with McSame, it is all bad news for those of us that pay attention to current events once again.

From CNN:

An end to earmarks, a gas-tax holiday, government-backed mortgages -- they're all part of GOP Sen. John McCain's "big and ambitious" plan to revive a flailing economy, a top aide said Tuesday.

Vice President Cheney tried to get Israel to pick a fight with Iran. Why? So the U.S. could legitimately attack back.
