Wilkins and Crawford to contest 2nd District House seat

State Rep. Winkie Wilkins announced Friday that "There will be no retirement"; he will run for the newly created house seat that now includes all of Person County and most of Granville County. A recent poll showed that Wilkins has a good chance of knocking off Crawford, who irritated democrats by siding with House republicans in matters of budget and veto overrides. It would seem that Wilkins and Crawford will try to keep the contest as cordial as possible as they met to discuss their plans prior to publicaly throwing their hats into the 2nd District's ring.
One of the "Gang of Five" just might get bounced from the House. Good. Wilkins will be a big improvement over Crawford. He's a good man and a hard working public servant.

Excellent

Anybody wanting to work/help on a campaign that will send a message within the Democratic party would do well to support Rep. Wilkins in this primary.

HD-02 race

Crawford hasn't filed yet, as of Friday, though he says he will. Makes me seriously wonder if he's contemplating 1) running as an Indy in the General to split the vote and tip the race to the GOP guy, or 2) changing parties and using his $$ to hijack the Rep nomination. This is a viable path for him because he'll get 10-20% Dem crossovers plus Rep/Indy support. And if he files to run Democrat...will Jenkins remain in the race and pull votes from Wilkins? A lot of variables here.
